Idaho Falls, Idaho to Orange County, California
This brand new CAT Model AP-1055F paving machine, complete with screed unit, was moved from one CAT dealer in Idaho to another CAT dealer in Southern California.  At a total weight of over 44,000 pounds, almost 12' wide, and standing 12' tall, the unit required a lowboy trailer.

We loaded the unit onto our 2007 X-L Specialized 3-axle 40-ton lowboy, ordered the necessary over-size and overweight permits, and headed out.

The biggest problem -- one that most carriers cannot overcome -- was that the unit was valued at $426,000.00; this required a much higher level of insurance that most small carriers simply cannot obtain.  However, since we have the necessary track record of safe, damage-free moves, we were able to easily obtain the needed insurance -- which was simply for the customer's benefit, as the unit arrived damage free and looking exactly like the brand new unit that it was.

We treat every shipment as if it belonged to us because the cargo is our responsibiity every minute that it is in our care; we take that obligation extremely seriously!

These Curtis Wright R-3550 radial engines were originally manufactured back in the 1960's for use on the last of the "luxury liner" aircraft -- the Constellation.  After the advent of the jet age, these liners fell into disuse and were effectively moth-balled -- some ended up in third world nations, running regional air routes, and some were converted for air freight.

About 10 years ago, Lufthansa began the restoration of one of these planes, with the aim of putting it back into the air -- possibly for high-dollar novelty passenger travel.  Unfortunately, after a legal battle regarding wages for their contract mechanics (which Lufthansa lost), the airline decided to dismantle the plane and ship it back to Germany.

We had the honor of transporting these engines -- which had been fully rebuilt by the most famous name in the aeromotive industry -- back to the Auburn-Lewiston Airport in Auburn, Maine.

This 1985 Freightliner tractor began life as a "heavy-haul" tractor for a large and well known east coast trucking company.  It was equipped with the "Silver 92" Detroit Diesel engine, rated at over 600 horsepower, and was used to haul everything from massive turbine units to subway cars.

The years took their toll, though, and the tractor was sold to a company our here on the west coast; the new owner intended to rebuild, re-fit and re-paint this work-horse to be a award-winning show truck.

Unfortunately, after a tragic accident, the owner no longer was in a position to return this unit to it's former glory.  He sold it to one of our customers, who asked us to bring it back to it's original home state.

The new owner has the same plans as the old, and it won't surprise me one bit to see a nice "new" 1985 Freightliner tooling down the road hauling a huge load behind it.
